In-car karaoke mobile application integrated with vehicle infotainment systems
Caraoke was conceived as a mobile application designed specifically for in-car singing. The app enabled passengers to sing along to scrolling lyrics while their voices were mixed in real time with music tracks and streamed through the vehicle’s audio system at full power, creating a social, immersive entertainment experience inside the car.
The core challenge lay in transforming a consumer mobile app into a smart, in-vehicle experience.
Automotive environments impose strict limitations around audio routing, user interaction, latency, and system access, requiring careful coordination between mobile software and vehicle hardware platforms.

How to deliver a high-quality, shared in-car singing experience by integrating a mobile application with automotive infotainment hardware, despite strict platform and safety constraints?
The solution
The project explored deep hardware-software integration between the Caraoke mobile application and Ford’s SYNC infotainment system. TheRoad analyzed SYNC’s capabilities and constraints, defined feasible integration paths, and adapted the application architecture to work within automotive safety, performance, and interface limitations.
